Through DFN-Verein, IMT offers the use of video and web conferences to all employees and lecturers of the university (faculties, institutes, chairs, facilities, committees, university groups). Video and web conferences enable a virtual meeting of two or more spatially separated partners, who can communicate with each other in real time via video and audio. Furthermore, the exchange and editing of different data (video, audio, text) is possible.
The University of Paderborn uses the DFNVideoConference service of the DFN. It offers the possibility to communicate with other users from a PC, a workstation or a room system by means of a point-to-point conference or a multipoint conference.
The following functions are available:
- Point-to-point conferences and multipoint conferences
- Direct use from the workplace (meeting room DFN services required) or via the video conference system
- Document Sharing
- Video conference in HD quality
- Passive conference participation via the streaming function
- International accessibility via the gatekeeper structure

This enables all employees of the university to create and use virtual meeting rooms without prior registration. Click here to go to the host portal of DFN. With DFNconf, various end devices (computers via browser (Pexip application), smartphones with Pexip App, hardware videoconferencing systems via H323 or sip procedure) can be dialed into a conference via Skype for Business software or simply by telephone (audio only).

For more than 12 people, the Lifesize Room 220 can also be used in a multimedia lecture room. Additional wireless microphones are available for this purpose.
In order to carry out classic video conferences from the workplace, a webcam, a headset, a good Internet connection and special video conferencing software (usually a purchased version) are required. There are various software solutions available for a fee, such as "LifeSize SoftPhone".
