Video and web conferences

The IMT offers all members of the university (faculties, institutes, chairs, facilities, committees, university groups) the use of video and web conferences. Video and web conferences enable a virtual meeting of two or more spatially separated partners who can communicate with each other in real time via video and audio. Furthermore, the exchange and processing of different data (video, audio, text) is possible.

Technical requirements for video and web conferences with your own end device:

  • Internet connection (fixed network is more stable than WLAN)

  • Headset / external microphone

  • Webcam

  • Conference software or browser

In 2020, the IMT has expanded its existing range of services via DFN-Verein (see below) to include the video conferencing tools BigBlueButton, MS-Teams, Zoom and WebEx as well as the Mumble voice conferencing software, which are partly suitable as video conferencing tools for job interviews, selection committees and appointment procedures, partly as tools for committees, partly for courses and partly for oral examinations. An overview of the features of each system can be found in the HelpWiki.

Conference systems for teaching

Not all conference systems are well suited for courses. Here you will find concrete recommendations for the selection of suitable systems for teaching and important information. ► https://hilfe.uni-paderborn.de/Audio-_und_Videokonferenzen_f%C3%BCr_die_digitale_Lehre/en

In particular, the University of Paderborn uses the services DFNconf (video conferencing service) and Adobe Connect (rather for eLearning scenarios) offered by DFN.

Video conference rooms H1.314 and L3.204

The video conference room H1.314 is equipped with the Lifesize Room 220 video conference system, which transmits in HD quality and supports document sharing. The room acoustics have been improved by using sound-absorbing materials. The room is suitable for up to 12 people. For more than 12 people, the Lifesize Room 220 can also be used in the multimedia lecture room H1.201. Additional wireless microphones are available for this purpose.

In event room L3.204 (booking via the administration) conferences with up to 25 participants (during the pandemic) can be held. The room is therefore also suitable for hybrid committee and commission meetings.
