E-mail

The Center for Information and Media Technologies (IMT) at the University of Paderborn offers the following services in the field of e-mail:

Uni-Mail

The IMT offers every student, staff member and guest an e-mail address in the name space of the university with a mailbox. Shared work on e-mails is possible. Additional mail domains can be created and managed for workgroups, departments and projects.

Uni-Mail is the central mail service of the University of Paderborn. It is realized with open source software.

Exchange

Workgroups can use the Exchange service for scheduling, contact management, task management, and shared resource management to facilitate collaboration. Employees receive an Exchange mailbox upon request.

The service is implemented with Microsoft Exchange On-Premise 2013 as software on virtual servers at the university in the IMT.

MSOPB

Students of the University of Paderborn receive a full e-mail account with Exchange function. With this, tasks and appointments can be coordinated and synchronized comfortably. Other services that can facilitate communication and collaboration between groups are also included. The use of a full-fledged Office 365 software package is included.

The MSOPB service uses Office 365, a platform provided by Microsoft for e-mail and online collaboration.

Mailing lists

Mailing lists support you in repeatedly sending e-mails to a (large) group of recipients. The service includes functions for managing the recipients, sending to many recipients according to the rules and automatic error processing. Employees, working groups or project groups can use mailing lists.

The service is implemented with open source software on servers in the IMT.

Warning of pishing e-mails

Unfortunately, criminals often try to get hold of your access data by sending fake e-mails asking you to log on to a website. The anti-spam system has to learn new spam and phishing messages first, until then the first emails of a new wave will be delivered to the recipients.

Please be alert. You will find information on how to recognize fraud attempts on the page phishing e-mails.

If you are unsure whether you have received a regular email or a phishing e-mail, please forward the e-mail to imt(at)upb(dot)de with an appropriate question.
