The Centre for Information and Media Technology Services (ZIM) provides central software offerings for Paderborn University. This page gives an overview of the products offered. If products are not listed, please ask (e-mail to zim@upb.de). The ZIM can obtain many individual products from suppliers at conditions for research and teaching.

We currently have many enquiries about apps and cloud services, especially from US providers. As a rule, the ZIM cannot procure these, as many of these services involve the processing of personal data in the USA, which requires complex regulations/contracts, if at all possible.

In terms of software offerings, there are various licensing and cost allocation models, ranging from centrally financed university-wide licences, campus licences that are allocated to fields, framework agreements through which individual products can be acquired at a discount, to individual licences that can be purchased or rented.

The persons entitled to use the software (employees, employees in research and teaching, lecturers, students, ...) and the licence conditions (use only for research and teaching, use only on business computers, number of possible installations, personal licences, device licences, ...) also differ depending on the software product, as do the operating systems supported.

On the following pages you will find the conditions under which you can use the respective software and information on whether and what costs may be incurred for you or your field.
