Handling zero clients in IMT pool rooms

Logging on to the zero clients

Switch on the Zero Client with the button on the right front. If the screen does not respond to this, there is still a toggle switch behind the device that turns off the power completely.

For the access you need:

  1. Uni-Account
  2. Network storage (recommended, so that you can easily back up your data)

Log on to a zero client with your Uni-Account and select a VM (virtual machine) The machines differ in the Windows operating system version and possibly the installed software. There are special VMs for some courses.

Disconnecting a session

Please note that you are not working on the local zero client, but on a VM in the IMT server. If for some reason the connection to the server is disconnected, you can be connected to the same session from any other client within 10 minutes. Disconnected VMs are deleted after 10 minutes, logged off VMs are deleted immediately. So make sure that you back up your data either on a USB stick or in your network storage.

Network drives

By default two network drives are connected:

n: = network drive (= \\fs-cifs\upb is the same for every user)

u: = home directory of the user. The home directory is identical to "n:\user\<first letter of the username>\<username>"

Please do not save your own files under "own files" on c:, i.e. locally, but directly in a separate directory on the "u:\data" drive.

Logout

You should log off the VM cleanly so that it does not remain in an undefined state for a long time. Shutting down and rebooting the operating system has the same effect as logging off.
